Flaky Biscuits

Flaky biscuits are delicious for breakfast with some maple syrup over them and they’re also nice for mopping up a hearty stew at dinner.

Here’s my recipe for flaky biscuits:

  • 2 cups of all purpose flour

  • 2 teaspoons of baking power

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 1/4 cup of cold butter cut up

  • 1/4 cup of vegetable shortening

  • 3/4 cup of milk

  • Heat the oven to 500°F

  • Mix the flour, baking powder and salt in bowl.

  • Then using a pastry blender, cut in the butter and shortening and mix until it reaches the consistency of large crumbs. Add the milk a little at a time and mix well until you’ve used all the milk.

  • Once you’ve formed a dough, put it onto a sheet of floured parchment paper and roll it to a 1 inch thickness.

  • Fold the dough over and roll it to a 1 inch thickness. Do this 4 more times.FullSizeRender (11)

  • Finally roll it out to a 1/2 inch thickness.  Then use a biscuit cutter to cut out your biscuits.

  • Put your biscuits 1 inch apart on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 12 minutes or until the biscuits are golden.
