Slow Cooker Haleem

Haleem is a stew with meat and  a mix of different types of lentils, wheat and barley. The lentils, barley and wheat are prepared treated differently before cooking. I found a dry mix that had the lentils and grains together so they were all prepared together before cooking.

Here’s the recipe for hearty haleem .

  • cooking oil

  • 1 cup of haleem mix soaked overnight

  • 1/4 Lb of stewing meat on the bone

  • 1 jalapeno pepper diced

  • 4 cloves of garlic diced

  • 2 inch piece of ginger

  • 1/4 teaspoon of saffron

  • 1 tablespoon of garam masala

  • 1 tablespoon of chaat masala

  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric

  • 1 teaspoon of chilli powder

  • 1 teaspoon of fenugreek

  • 1 tablespoon of ground cumin

  • 1 tablespoon of ground coriander

  • 6 cups of water

  • salt

  • Put the pre-soaked haleem mix, meat, ginger, garlic and  jalapeno pepper into the slow cooker and cover it with 6 cups of water and let it cook on high for 2 hours.

  • After 2 hours, add the saffron, garam masala, chaat masala, turmeric, chilli powder, fenugreek, cumin, coriander and salt to taste and let it cook for 2 more hours.
