Asparagus In a Creamy Asian Sauce

Asparagus has to be tender but still firm. It’s one of those vegetables that really needs to seasoned well. Citrus really pairs well with asparagus. I made a creamy mayonnaise sauce spiked with lemon juice that I poured over steamed asparagus.

Here’s my recipe.

  • 1 Lb of asparagus with the ends trimmed

  • 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise

  • 2 cloves of garlic

  • 1 inch of ginger

  • 1 stalk of scallions

  • 4 tablespoons of lemon juice

  • sesame oil

  • salt

  • Steam the asparagus until tender but crisp.

  • Heat some sesame oil in a pan.

  • With a mortar and pestle crush the garlic, ginger and scallions to make a rough paste and add it to the pan. Then add the mayonnaise, lemon juice and salt to taste and cook for about 2 minutes to allow the flavours to meld together.

  • Pour the sauce over the asparagus.
